Are we overtreating cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients?
Morris Mosseri, Yoav Arnson & Itamar RazType 2 diabetes and other constituents of the metabolic syndrome, including dyslipidemia and hypertension, increase the risk of developing atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease (CVD) [1]. Complications following acute coronary syndrome (ACS) are more prevalent in patients with diabetes compared with the general population. These data have prompted the medical community to treat diabetic patients more aggressively. In this article, we will review the literature and examine whether this approach has been validated for various therapeutic measures.
